Project Description:

InHow can these women be supported in creating sustainable lifestyle changes during this pregnancy, the important life phase?

The Hygeia project is a collaboration between ErasmusMC, TU Delft, Hogeschool Rotterdam, Leiden University, and Erasmus University which focuses on the improvement and adaptation of Smarter Pregnancy, a web-based lifestyle intervention program, initially launched in 2011. The project is guided by co-creation processes as to directly involve women and their healthcare providers to inform the design and development of this lifestyle intervention. In doing so, we aim to create an accessible, (cost-)effective, and pleasant-to-use healthcare tool for all users and stakeholders involved.

These efforts have led to Smarter Pregnancy+, a new digital lifestyle intervention app specifically catered to the needs of pregnant women with obesity. The program focuses on creating healthy habits, addressing mental health, and managing pregnancy symptoms to support sustainable lifestyle change during and after pregnancy. As of March 2025, a large scale randomized controlled trial has started where 930 women will use this app throughout their pregnancy.

This project is funded by ZonMW
